What holding a perpetual futures position costs (or earns) in funding over days or weeks, from the 8-hour funding rate. Pre-filled with Bitcoin's current rate on Binance.
Assumes the rate stays where it is; in practice it changes every 8 hours. The live crowding picture is on the market regime page.
funding = position size × rate per 8h × 3 × days. Longs pay when the rate is positive; shorts pay when it is negative.
A payment between longs and shorts on perpetual futures, usually every 8 hours, that keeps the contract price close to spot. When it is positive, longs pay shorts; when negative, shorts pay longs.
On the full position size. A $1,000 margin at 10x is a $10,000 position, and funding is paid on $10,000.
On Bitcoin, 0.01% per 8 hours (about 11% a year) is a common default. In euphoric markets it can reach 0.05% to 0.1% per 8 hours, which makes holding a leveraged long expensive.
